Regarding my professional life, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1981 from Kean University in Union, New Jersey.
In 1985, I was accepted into the Master Of Arts program in Counselor Education, also at Kean University. I began my clinical psychotherapy practice there, in the college counseling center, as I worked toward earning my Master's Degree in 1987.
With my MA complete, I worked extensively in addiction treatment, first in New Jersey, and then in California.
In 1996, I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California.
My own evolution has involved working through a history of depression and codependency. I come from a long line of addicts and alcoholics. Brilliant, suffering and complicated people doing the best they could, while creating a lot of collateral damage. Though I am quite familiar with suffering, I am generally happy now. I have done, and continue to do the work.
Personally and professionally, I am rooted in Buddhism and Humanistic Psychology. Well before I embraced those studies, I was raised as a Christian. I am curious person, a seeker of knowledge and truth. I was born that way. At age 13, I began to study metaphysics and learning to read Tarot Cards for insight and guidance, for myself and for others. I continue to do so. Incorporating spirituality and the Tarot into therapeutic relationships can be quite helpful, when appropriate for a client and our work together. Another relatively new method I am involved in is Ketamine assisted psychotherapy. This type of treatment can facilitate deep and lasting healing within a very few sessions. It is truly remarkable.
Being open to new information and experience is an essential, for myself and my work. Learning is a life long process. Insight happens ! Mistakes are made. Wisdom is gained, and never complete.
I believe we are all connected in this life. We are here to help each other grow into the best humans we can be. We can not do this alone. We heal together.
