A Little About Me and My Work

Picture
Diana Little, MA, LMFT
I was born in 1961 in Los Angeles, California.

Regarding my professional life, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1981 from Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

I began my clinical psychology practice from 1985 to 1987 at the Kean University Counseling Center while earning my Master's Degree.

With my MA complete, I worked extensively in addiction treatment, in New Jersey and then in California.

In 1996, I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California.

My personal evolution has involved working through a history of depression and codependency. I come from a long line of addicts and alcoholics. Brilliant, suffering and complicated people doing the best they could, while creating a lot of collateral damage.
Though I am quite familiar with suffering, I am generally happy now. I have done,
and do, "the work".

Personally and professionally, I am rooted in Buddhism and Humanistic Psychology.
Well before I embarked on those studies, I was raised as a Christian. Devoutly so.
With that foundation, I was a curious child. I had a lot of questions. I still do !

So, at age 13, looking for answers, I began to learn how to read Tarot Cards.  At 16, I began studying metaphysics and world religions. Buddhism quickly became my chosen path. I embrace many of the teachings of Christianity and other religions as well, all where we are taught to love one another, with various ways of connecting to our true source. I have found insight and guidance on these spiritual journeys, for myself and for others. I continue to do so.

Today, I work with my clients in two ways.

My Psychotherapy practice involves a traditional approach toward mental health.
Please note that this practice is limited to California residents as it is under the legal protection of my state license. In this capacity, I am also available for Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, a relatively new and exciting fast track method of deep healing. Ketamine is definitely not for everyone and needs to be fully discussed and understood before a course of treatment would be recommended. Clients may be able to receive reimbursement for my Psychotherapy services from their medical insurance, depending upon their coverage.

My Spiritual Counseling practice is more free flowing and creative. I draw upon Buddhism, many other spiritual and religious teachings, and Tarot Card reading. It is a deeply intuitive, interactive, individual process. Many clients have called my work "Psychic". While I can certainly not predict the future, there often is a level of knowing I cannot explain. "PsychicPsychotherapy" feels right to me, and I hope this term appeals to people who will be open to and benefit most from this type of work. This counseling modality is available to anyone, anywhere. Yet again, it is not for everyone !

Being open to new information and experience is essential, for myself and my work.
Learning is a lifelong process. Insight happens. Change happens. Mistakes are made. Wisdom is gained, and we are never complete. We are infinite.

I believe we are all connected in this life. We are here to help each other.
We cannot do this alone. We will heal together.
